Emotional literacy is hard to teach abstractly, and this makes it concrete: children build and look at different feelings, talk about what they see, and learn to read expressions in themselves and others. For a child who struggles to name or communicate how they feel, having physical pieces to point to and arrange can unlock a conversation that words alone can't.
