Coloured Rice

A 454g pack of non-toxic dyed rice in assorted colours. Draw with glue, sprinkle rice over the top, shake off the rest — and the drawing has texture you can feel.

It also goes straight into a sand tray or a sensory bin, where it pours, buries, sifts and runs through fingers. Rice does something sand doesn't: it's louder, lighter and it moves faster.

Glue not included, and it's needed for the craft use — worth adding to your basket if you don't have any.

Loose rice. Supervise closely, and think carefully if your child mouths or eats non-food items.
